The story started
Theodora Anavhe Adamu Foundation (TAAF) was founded in memory of Theodora Anavhe Adamu, with a vision to create a Nigeria where no woman dies during pregnancy or childbirth and where neonatal deaths are significantly reduced.
Our mission is to design inclusive and innovative programs that promote safe motherhood through advocacy, training, and awareness campaigns, ensuring that maternal, newborn, and child health remains a priority for all stakeholders.
The Journey
On December 17, 2012, our world changed forever. We had eagerly awaited the birth of our sister Theodora Anavhe Adamuβs son, only to be confronted with an unimaginable loss. Theodora suffered eclampsia, leading to severe complications that ultimately claimed her life.
Months later, in search of answers, we returned to the hospital to review her medical recordsβonly to be told that her file was missing. A decade later, countless women, especially those in low-income communities, continue to suffer preventable maternal deaths and complications. Many, like Theodora, leave no official medical record behind.
From this profound pain, TAAF was bornβa movement to advocate for stronger health systems, safe motherhood, and reproductive health rights for vulnerable women and girls in Nigeria.
Β
We are committed to improving maternal health by:
β
Advocating for stronger healthcare policies and systems
β
Building capacity through training for healthcare workers and communities
β
Creating demand for maternal and reproductive healthcare services
β
Increasing access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services and support
We envision a world where no woman dies from preventable pregnancy or childbirth complicationsβa world where every mother has access to quality healthcare, remains healthy before, during, and after childbirth, and raises thriving children in safe and supportive communities.
In our organisation, certain values guide our efforts towards achieving our vision and mission; these values ensure that our beneficiaries are the priority at every point in time. These values are Empathy, Passion, Confidence, Innovation and Creativity.
At TAAF, our work is guided by five fundamental values:
β€οΈ Empathy β We prioritize the needs and experiences of the women we serve.
π₯ Passion β We are deeply committed to reducing maternal mortality.
πͺ Confidence β We believe in the power of advocacy and change.
π‘ Innovation β We adopt creative solutions to address maternal health challenges.
π¨ Creativity β We develop unique programs that drive impactful results.
We contribute our own quota to the global move of safe motherhood through
We believe that universal access to quality maternal care during pregnancy and childbirth is a basic human right. No woman should die due to preventable complications.
In July 2015, TAAF partnered with the FCT primary healthcare board to give safe motherhood information and mama kits to women in PHC kubwa.
Still with technical support from the FCT Primary Healthcare Board in partnership with the Kabash Love Foundation, in October 2015 we took advocacy on safe motherhood to Dakwa community in Bwari area council Abuja. We also gave mama kits to pregnant women to encourage them attend antenatal clinics. One major challenges women in low income communities face during pregnancy and childbirth is purchasing the essentials for delivery. This is one major reasons why women give birth at home instead in health centers.
In February 2016 still in partnership with the FCT Primary Health Care Board, TAAF took advocacy and support to women in Kabusa IDP camp. The FCT primary health care board gave us technical support to immunize children, gave information on water hygiene and sanitation especially in pregnancy and HIV testing and screening. Pregnant women were also given mama kits.
Donations can be made in various forms, including cash, checks, credit cards, stocks, or other assets.
Donating disinfectants can help prevent the spread of infectious diseases, especially those that are transmitted.
Donating pads can help girls and women who do not have access to menstrual products to manage their periods with dignity and comfort.
Donating wipes can help women in several ways especially useful for women who do not have access to running water.
Sanitizers can be used by women and healthcare workers during pregnancy and childbirth to reduce the risk of infection and promote good hygiene practices.
